Reds see their lead disappear but show resilience to rescue a point as they play in the University of Bolton Stadium

Both teams warm up in the Bolton sunshine on the pristine turf of the Bolton University Stadium, home of Bolton Wanderers FC. A big thanks to all the Barnsley supporters who made the trip across the Pennines or joined the team on the coach.

Great to see the Mascots helping out too.

Barnsley start with Danielle Whitham at right back as Kathryn Smith and Shannon Durkin both keep starting places after their performances over the last couple of games.

Bolton get the game underway as Lucy Turner has a rare win of the Toss and decides to kick right to left.
3 mins Danielle Whitham plays up the right wing to Lissa Woodhouse who takes it to the goal line before her cross across goal which eludes everyone to gasps from both sets of supporters.
4 min Annie Ward clears up the centre of the field, the Bolton goal keeper is hesitant in coming out for it and both Lissa Woodhouse and Sophie Bell try to capitalise on it but instead both end up in a heap as the defender comes away with the ball.
8 min Lucy Turner plays up to Drew Greene who heads it on to Lissa Woodhouse in the left wing channel, Drew supports and wins a corner for Barnsley which Danielle Whitham takes over the keeper who got fingers to it to concede another corner on the opposite side which Sophie Crosby takes, but this one is safely cleared.
18:57 Danielle Whitham plays over Shannon Durkin on the right wing, who then chases it down before playing back to Sophie Bell as she continues her run into the box to head the resulting cross just wide.
19:23 Bolton No 4 slides a great ball through the centre of the Barnsley defence and with No11 bearing down on it in the penalty area Lucy Turner manages to stretch out a toe to deflect it away.

26:30 Drew Greene and Sophie Crosby combine well in the left wing channel to cross into the Bolton goal area from where it is headed clear, but only as far as Danielle Whitham who from 30 yards tries her luck with a shot that fizzed just wide.
29:30 Bolton attack down the left wing beats Danielle Whitham, but Lucy Turner is alert to the danger of No11 and is quickly across to block the cross and cleverly gets the rebound off the Bolton player for a goal kick.
31:23 Bolton break down the left, but Sophie Bell this time is the covering player to come across and clear the danger.
31:48 36 yards out and Bolton No6 shoots just wide.
37:20 Bolton win a corner off Danielle Whitham, Annie Ward not only heads clear but then follows up to block the follow up shot from the edge of the area, spotting Drew clear on the left she sends the ball forward to her and she manages to win a corner for Barnsley. Danielle Whitham’s takes and it is punched clear for another corner which Sophie Crosby takes and this time it is headed clear and way for a Barnsley throw on the left.
39:50 the throw is taken by Drew Greene into Lissa Woodhouse who squares the ball to Kathryn Smith who from 25 yards out hits a rocket of a shot towards the top right of the goal and despite the goal keeper getting fingers to it opens the scoring. 0-1 Barnsley.

56:40 a very speculative high ball into the Barnsley goal area looks to be a straight forward catch for Skye Kirkham, but as she takes it to ground it squirms out from under her body and into the path of Bolton No12 who gratefully slots it into the open goal to equalise. 1-1

63 min Barnsley head the corner clear only as far as Bolton No6 who on 63:40 smashes it into the same top right corner that Kathryn Smith hit earlier in the game. 2-1 to Bolton.

92:48 Free-kick to Bolton is lofted into the Barnsley penalty area but Annie Ward is there to head clear which is the last action of the game.
Full time 2-2 felt like a fair result, but during the game especially the 2nd half it was Bolton who shows the more cohesive performance, pressing the Barnsley players and attacking with intent. Barnsley were missing some of their normal zip as passes were not as accurate as we have seen.

CAWA Coffee Player of the Match was Lissa Woodhouse, she never stopped running all game up front.

Opposition Player of the match was Lucy Turner sponsored by Lifetime
