As the teams lined up it was clear that Crewe Alexandra had only travelled with 10 players, a difficult end of season game in warm conditions to not have a full complement and no substitutions.

It was good to see Rebecca Hornsey return after illness and a start for Shannon Durkin. The toss went against Barnsley so they got the game underway.
5 min a Barnsley corner was swung in from the right by Sophie Crosby, it was cleared but only as far as Rebecca Hornsey who saw her goal bound effort deflected wide for another corner, but this one was cleared by the visitors.
9 min Sophie Bell gets inventive with a left foot flick goalwards from another Sophie Crosby corner, but it went over the cross bar from 5 yards.
13 min finally dead lock broken when from yet another Sophie Crosby corner Annie Ward, sponsored by LSH productions, rose unmarked to bullet head into the back of the goal 1-0
16 min Shannon Durkin peels off the back post at a Rebecca Hornsey corner . but she rifles her volley from 18 yards just over.
22 min fantastic work by Mollie Crump, sponsored by Carmel Group, with skilful trickery she makes progress down the right before playing a fantastic ball across the face of goal into Drew Greene , sponsored by iVision, to smash it home. 2-0

24 min a burst of pace from Sophie Bell to recover the ball by the goal line to loop her cross into the penalty area and there is Drew Greene, sponsored by iVision, to finish it off 3-0

33 min a clumsy challenge on Lissa Woodhouse saw a penalty awarded, from which Kathryn Smith calmly placed the ball in the right hand corner as the goal keeper dived the opposite way 5-0

47 min Crewe get the second half underway having stayed out at half time wondering what more they can do to stop the Reds running away with this game.
57 min Crewe are understandably slowing the game down at every opportunity as the first proper chance falls to Shannon Durkin as she twists and shapes to shoot on the turn but the Crewe keeper is out bravely to snatch the ball.
60 min Mollie Crump is replaced by Hannah Campbell as Barnsley go three at the back and Drew Greene switches to right wing and Shannon Durkin moves out to the left.
64 min lovely play from the Reds as Kathryn Smith's deft touch plays in Lissa Woodhouse, she unselfishly squares it to Hannah Campbell at the back post who narrowly misses the target.
65 min Rebecca Hornsey tries her luck from 30 yards out but the Goalkeeper is well positioned to claim it safely

71 min again it is Shannon Durkin the provider down the left as she finds Lissa Woodhouse to drive into the penalty area before flashing a ball across the face of goal just wide of the far upright.
74 min Shannon Durkin takes a well deserved rest and is replaced by Ellie Brightmore
81 min free-kick for Crewe from 35 yards is easily claimed by Skye Kirkham
84 min finally second half dead lock is broken when a Barnsley break on the right is switched to Ellie Brightmore, sponsored by Pinfold Roofing, in the left wing channel, she progresses into the penalty area before picking her spot and shooting past the keeper and into the far corner of the goal 7-0

A fantastic day at the office as they post their second biggest result of the season, but credit to Crewe Alexandra Ladies who played the whole game with only 10 players, four of which 16 year old and the assistant manager. The team showed great desire and great team performance to play and defend to the end.

CAWA Coffee players of the Match were Shannon Durkin and Drew Greene.
