Barnsley FC Ladies vs Chorley FC Women

Bekkie H4 Nov 2018 - 21:49

Reds go unbeaten four from four in October

There was a definite nip in the air as the team took to the home pitch with their junior mascots after 2 successful away wins. Chorley FC Women started the game in 3rd position in the league and were hoping to get back to winning ways after 2 league draws.

Lucy Turner lost the toss so it was Barnsley FC Ladies who got the game under way against Chorley FC Women playing in yellow and black..
Just into the 3rd minute and Darcie Greene broke down the left wing and into the penalty area, the Chorley keeper came out quickly to save the shot with her legs, it fell to Amy Woodruff but her shot was blocked away. But Barnsley re-gathered and passed out to Sophie Bell on the right wing and she crossed towards the back post, it went over the keeper and Lissa Woodhouse had an easy tap in to give the Reds the lead after only 2 min 50 seconds.
4 min Lissa Woodhouse has her shot blocked out for a Barnsley corner which is cleared away.
10 min the ball is played into Lissa Woodhouse in the Chorley penalty area, with her defender on the wrong side a big appeal for a penalty was waved away as she was barged over from behind.

22 min quickly taken Barnsley free kick from Drew Greene released Amy Woodruff up the right wing, she took on her defender to reach the goal line before crossing to Lissa Woodhouse who headed into the grateful hands of the Chorley keeper.
25 min a switch in play by Barnsley from right to left wing involving Kathryn Smith, Drew Greene and Rebecca Hornsey, released Darcie Greene forward to cross deep to Sophie Bell but her shot was cleared away.
26 min Chorley No 8 makes a good break from midfield having won the ball off Rebecca Hornsey, but she was well defended by Annie Ward who got a foot in to concede a throw in. Rebecca had taken a knock on her foot but was back on her feet to try and run it off.
28 min Barnsley throw which Lissa Woodhouse took to the goal line before playing in Darcie Greene whose shot was blocked away for a corner which Sophie Crosby hit too long.
31 min Sophie Crosby crossed into the box and headed back to her, so she crossed it back in and this time the Goal keeper was scrambling but managed to push it out for a corner. Rebecca Hornsey floated it in and Lucy Turner rose well to meet it and head just wide of the right hand upright.
36 min Amy Woodruff played out to Darcie Greene whose acceleration took her outside her defender toward the corner before playing back to Rebecca Hornsey to cross in and Sophie Bell headed just wide.
39 min a lovely bit of defending by Sophie Bell on the right wing first on the Chorley left midfielder to prevent an inside ball and then racing onto the Chorley forward to get a foot in and win the ball back when they played the left wing channel ball. She then quickly released Darcie Greene on the other wing to mount another Barnsley attack, but her final cross was cleared.
42 min Amy Woodruff played through into the left wing channel for Lissa Woodhouse, but the Chorley defender got there first, however shed played back to her keeper and Lissa had continued her run to close the keeper down to force a mistake as she rushed her clearance only as far as Amy Woodruff who tried to lob the keeper, but she managed to make the save pushing it over the cross bar for a Barnsley corner, which was taken by Rebecca Hornsey and saved.
45:53 min half-time and a very entertaining one by Barnsley who should have been further ahead than just 1-0. Some good defensive work by Chorley and especially from their goal keeper had kept them in the game.
46 min Almost from the kick off Chorley attacked and a rare mistake by Lucy Turner gave a half chance to the Chorley striker which she took hitting a screamer of a shot 25yards into the roof of the goal with Skye Kirkham rooted. 1-1 game on.
