Burnley FC Women go top of the league table with a close win over Barnsley FC Ladies

Barnsley FC Ladies lined up with Mollie Crump starting at right back with Sophie Bell joining Lucy Turner in the middle of defence and Emily Ward at left back. Lauryn Wilcock made her 1st team debut on right wing.

Lucy Turner lost the toss and so Barnsley FC Ladies in their home strip got this game under way against Burnley FC Women in the claret and sky blue kit.

4 min down the right wing Amy Woodruff disguised a lovely pass through the Burnley defence which Lissa Woodhouse ran onto before playing back to Kathryn Smith who despite being challenged to the ground she managed to play the ball inside to Darcie Greene who squared to sister Drew Greene whose shot had the Burnley keeper stretching to tip over the cross bar. Kathryn Smith took the corner to Mollie Crump to shoot from about the penalty spot but it was blocked away.
7 min Burnley corner is headed away by Lucy Turner which Lissa Woodhouse latched onto and broke forward winning a Barnsley throw in the Burnley half.
13 min Kathryn Smith hit a shot from 25 yards out which was tipped over by the Burnley keeper.
15 min Emily Ward played out of defence into Kathryn Smith in midfield, she played it into the left wing channel for Drew Greene to break into the penalty area to shoot straight at the goal keeper.
18 min early Burnley with Danielle Cooper making way for Nicola Shirtcliffe.

34 min Darcie Greene penalised on the Burnley right wing, they switched over to the left before swinging in a cross which Sarah Greenhaigh stretch up to get a faint glancing header goal wards which went in off the right hand post as Skye Kirkham scrambling across. 0-1 Burnley.
38 min Darcie Greene played through to Lauryn Wilcock who took it to the goal line before crossing into the goal area but caught by the goal keeper.
39 min from the left wing the Burnley No 3 crossed into No7 who headed wide of the goal.
40 min Darcie Greene saw her shot saved and although the keeper spilled it there was no one following up.
42 min Lauryn Wilcock won the ball back in midfield, she played in Amy Woodruff who was fouled about 30 yards out. Kathryn Smith took the free-kick into the box but it was headed clear.
45 min Lauryn Wilcock was fouled near the right wing about 35 yards out. Kathryn Smith took the free-kick into the box but again it was headed clear.
45 min Amy Woodruff found herself in space 26 yards out but her shot was saved and the Referee blew for half time.

49 min Rebecca Fevers comes on to replace Lauryn Wilcock, with Amy Woodruff moving to the wing, Kathryn Smith further forward and Rebecca into the holding midfield position in front of the back 3.
50 min Burnley switch the ball quickly from left to right wing to create space for a shot which Skye Kirkham saves.
58 min Drew Greene is fouled on the left wing as she was about to break free. Sophie Bell swung in a cross which Lissa Woodhouse headed out for a goal kick.
60 min Burnley free kick awarded following a foul by Drew Greene which resulted in a corner from the right side which Lucy Turner blocked away to Drew Greene but she was defended out of play for a Burnley throw
61 min Mollie Crump played square to Sophie Bell and onto Emily Ward who played a one-two with Drew Greene up the left wing then into Lissa Woodhouse, she crossed square but it was gathered by the Burnley keeper.
63 min Mollie Crump played quickly across the back to Lucy Turner and onto Emily Ward, she drove forward into space before playing into the left wing channel, but it was gathered by the out rushing Burnley keeper before Lissa Woodhouse could get there.
67 min Burnley substitution with Kathryn Halligan coming on for Evie Priestley.
70 min nasty clash of heads in the Barnsley penalty area as Lucy Turner bravely heads a Burnley cross clear.
77 min Drew Greene breaks up the right wing, but the Burnley goal keeper comes out to clear.
78 min Rebecca Fevers played the ball forward to Amy Woodruff who headed it on to Lissa Woodhouse who was one on one with the Keeper who she tried unsuccessfully to lob.
80 min good work by Lissa Woodhouse on the right wing tied up a couple of defenders, she played back to Rebecca fevers who passed into Amy Woodruff to shoot on the turn from the edge of the penalty area. Loud appeals for handball were heard as the Burnley defender blocked were waved away.
82 min Burnley corner was caught by Skye Kirkham. Barnsley substitution with Emily Ward replaced by Isabel Thomas and a change in formation to three at the back as they pushed forward for an equaliser.
86 min Barnsley corner from the left which Lucy Turner attacked strongly to head wide for a goal kick.
87 min Kathryn Smith released Drew Greene up the right wing, she dribbled into the penalty area but shot over the goal.
91 min Barnsley awarded a free kick on the edge of the penalty area for a foul on Lissa Woodhouse, Kathryn Smith took over the wall but gathered by the Burnley keeper.
93 min Full time. Another disappointing loss for Barnsley FC ladies after a good performance where for large amounts of the game they were the attacking team, however credit to Burnley for being well drilled and defending well to come away with the result which elevated them to top of the league. Drew Greene was named opposition player of the match and Sarah Greenhaigh named as Burnley’s player of the match.
