A change of venue with the team returning to their original home ground at Dorothy Hyman Sports centre in Cudworth, where this end of season game was played on a brand new £350,000 FA invested 3G artificial pitch. Thank you to all the supporters both at this game crammed into the cage or watching from the hillside flicking between the football and the athletics it was a perfect day for watching but a little warm for playing as both teams found out.
Barnsley FC Ladies kicked off with a bit of a shuffle around with Darcie Greene unable to play following injury picked up on Tuesday night.
6 min Drew Greene threaded a ball through the Newcastle defence which Amy Woodruff ran onto to shoot straight at the goal keeper who caught it gratefully.
7 min a ball played up to Kristie Ward was controlled on her chest and despite tight defending she managed to turn and shoot but was unable to get power behind it and the goal keeper gathered.
11 min Newcastle corner was headed over the cross bar
19 min Newcastle broke through the centre of midfield, with Georgina Wilson covering across it gave time for Lucy Turner to cover and win the ball when the player turned inside.
21 min Amy Woodruff broke up the left wing, she was tackled but was strong enough to stay on her feet as the Newcastle tackler laid on the ball, then Newcastle mounted an attack crossing into the penalty area which Rebecca Wilson stretch every sinew to just head away from the striker and Emily Ward cleared.
22 min a Barnsley corner was played short by Rebecca Fevers to Georgina Wilson who swung in the cross to Rebecca Wilson to head, but it was blocked and cleared out but put back in by Emily Ward a little too deep and out for a goal kick.
24 min, no surprise on such a hot day the Referee blew for a drinks stoppage.
30 min back underway Newcastle tried playing out from the back but Isabel Thomas was strong and blocked the way forward, winning a free kick. Elisha James hit it up to Kristie Ward who controlled and once again hit it on the turn this time with a bit more power but straight at the goal keeper.
33 min the Newcastle keepers throw out was poor and Amy Woodruff intercepted and took it back into the penalty area where she calmly took it round the Keeper and to slot it into the bottom corner of the goal 1-0 Barnsley FC Ladies.
34 min Elisha James and Rebecca Wilson defended a Newcastle attack conceding a corner
36 min breaking out of defence Emily Ward crossed the half way line up the left wing, saw Georgina Wilson free on the right but failed to thread the ball to her, Newcastle attacked but Elisha James and Isabel Thomas were covering and put pressure on the cross and shot which went wide of the right hand post.
43 min Newcastle swung in a cross which Bryony Hudson stretch up to catch and then throw out to try and mount an attack.
Half-time and Newcastle stayed out on the pitch as the match officials and Barnsley FC Ladies sought the changing room shade and a well-earned drink.
Changes for Barnsley with Kristie Ward making way for a season debut appearance from Kathryn Smith fresh from her travels.
47 min Isabel Thomas played a one two with Kathryn Smith before crossing into Amy Woodruff but she was penalised for a high foot as a defence stooped in to head the ball clear.
48 min Elisha James lost the ball in the centre of the field and Newcastle drove forward targeting the gap between Lucy Turner and Emily Ward before playing a square ball left from where their other striker shot over the cross bar.
50 min Isabel Thomas broke down the left wing, her first attempt of a cross was blocked, so she played back to Georgina Wilson in support who crossed into Drew Greene, with back to goal she laid off to set up Rebecca Fevers to shoot wide. From the goal kick Newcastle broke down their left wing and from just outside the penalty area what looked like a cross was floated over the top of Bryony Hudson and into the top right corner of the goal 1-1 equaliser.

53 min Rebecca Wilson played out to Emily Ward out left, who found a pass to Kathryn Smith in the centre circle. She hit a ball over the Newcastle defence into the path of Isabel Thomas who took it down the right wing to the goal line before crossing hard across the goal area where Emily Ward had continued forward, but the ball hit her shins and over the cross bar.
54 min Newcastle cross into the penalty area from the left win was hit over the cross bar.
57 min Amy Woodruff drove down the left wing, but a Newcastle foot diverted the ball away from Amy and into Kathryn Smith who burst inside drawing a free kick just on the edge of the penalty area. Kathryn Smith took the free-kick herself and it went up over the wall but the goalkeeper caught easily.
59 min Newcastle corner was headed goal wards but was cleared off the line by Emily Ward.
61 min Barnsley FC Ladies substitution with Elisha James making way for Bekkie Hale. A shuffle around with Drew Greene switching to left wing, Amy Woodruff to centre forward and Bekkie Hale dropping in just behind.
64 min Newcastle corner was headed clear by Rebecca Wilson, Kathryn Smith picked up the ball and hit it long up the right wing channel for Isabel Thomas to chase down. Her path into the penalty area was defended so she played back to Georgina Wilson and the attack fizzled out under good defensive work by Newcastle.
69 min Isabel Thomas was substituted for Alayna Millard.
72 min Rebecca Fevers played a through ball for Amy Woodruff and Alayna Millard to chase down but the goal keeper was alert and just reached it before them.

74 min Georgina Wilson looped around Alayna Millard down the right wing to cross into Kathryn Smith who pushed a through ball into Amy Woodruff breaking the offside line into the right side of the penalty area and to be one on one with the keeper, who she rounded but then pulled her shot wide of the left hand post.
82 mins Emily Ward passed centrally into Bekkie Hale who controlled on her chest into the path of Rebecca Fevers, she spotted the run of Drew Greene into the left side of the penalty area and found her with a perfectly weighted pass. Drew stepped inside her defender and shot just over the top right corner of the goal with the keeper beaten.
88 min Emily Ward played out up the left wing to Drew Greene, continuing her run she received the ball back and crossed into Amy Woodruff to head goal wards, but the goal keeper held on under pressure from Alayna Millard.
91 min Bryony Hudson goal kick was headed on by Bekkie Hale, bouncing over Amy Woodruff and seized on by Drew Greene, she was one on one with the keeper but shot wide of the goal.
92 min full time 1-1 draw. Amy Woodruff was named opposition player of the match
There then followed a wait to hear the Mossley Hill Athletic vs Brighouse Town Ladies score, finally it came through 1-2, some calculations and questions then realisation that Barnsley FC Ladies had managed to finish 11th out of 12 teams in the FA WPL Northern Division 1, above Mossley Hill despite both teams finishing on 17 points same goal difference it came down to games lost.
It is now a case of waiting to hear from the FA about the T1/T2 applications after the Championship play of on 27th May, to know in which league Barnsley FC Ladies will play next season.
