Someone once said 'Football is a funny old game', and as we are about to enter the final week of the 2017-18 season, our first in the FA WPL , there will be many who look back at this season with a scratch of their head at all the twists and turns that have taken place. The narrow defeats, the players leaving and returning mid season, the getting to know new coaches & formations, handover of club ownership and the blossoming of young talent for the future.
So although in recent weeks the fixture backlogs have unravelled revealing the true league positions, this Reds side may be bottom but has started to gel under the leadership of Lucy Turner.
So on Sunday at Oakwell, we welcome back Abby Parkin, Holly Findlay and Rebecca Jeffels albeit now playing for Leeds United Ladies FC, who sit only 3 points above Barnsley FC Ladies with Mossley Hill FC between them. A win could lift Barnsley off the bottom with Mossley away to league leaders Hull City, so survival in the WPL Northern Division 1 is within Barnsley's reach. And let's not forget Barnsley beat Leeds 3-4 earlier in the season in a tight game .
A last minute team change for Barnsley FC Ladies with Laura Wilson replacing Bryony Hudson in goal, get well soon Bry thinking of you.
We hope you can make this game to raise the roof off the stand in support with admission of only £2 adult and £1 children. It should be a cracking game in true tradition of games vs Leeds Utd.
Then a quick recovery is required before Tuesday night at Keepmoat Doncaster the SHFA Womens County cup final vs Huddersfield Town (entry £5), before final game of the season next Sunday at home to Newcastle Women FC.
