Following an overnight frost the 4G pitch at Oakwell was deemed unplayable, but fortunately due to the winter sun the grass pitch was. Hull City Ladies FC in their Orange and black striped shirts kicked off, with new Barnsley Captain Lucy Turner having won the toss.
From the kick off Hull were directly on the attack, an off the ball run drew in the Barnsley defence and the ball was passed into the left wing channel from where the shot was tipped out by Laura Wilson across the penalty area, but the Hull attack reacted quickly and smashed a shot low into the goal, 1 minute 20 seconds and Barnsley were trailing 0-1.
6 mins a Hull corner was swung in, the initial shot was blocked by a diving Lucy Turner but the rebound was hit into the net, 0-2.
15 mins another Hull corner was this time scrambled clear, Barnsley were finding it very difficult to get out of their half and mount any form of attack, it was all defence.
22mins Hull attacked down their right wing right to the goal line but the cross was blocked by the covering Lucy Turner out for a corner
24 mins Hull attacked down the left wing this time, and then inwards towards goal they threaded a ball through the Barnsley defence onto which their winger ran onto, shooting low Laura Wilson managed a block which took some of the pace off the ball, but despite the desperate attempt from Georgina Wilson to clear overhead from the goal line it dribbled over for a 0-3 lead to Hull.
26 mins Laura Windle played the ball from midfield out to Drew Greene on the right wing, she made progress and managed to cross to Amy Woodruffe to hit bring it under control and shoot. It was blocked by a defender to claims of handball which were waved away and the ball cleared for a Barnsley throw. Good defence though from the throw led to an easy gather by their goal keeper.
28 mins Hull attack down the right wing was blocked by Elisha James for a corner which was played short and Barnsley caught them offside.
35 mins saw a heavy late challenge in Lucy Turner resulting in a free-kick just inside the Barnsley half, thankfully after 2 mins of treatment she was able to resume the game having initially got to her feel very gingerly. The ball was played into the Hull penalty area but it was caught by the goal keeper.
45 mins Lucy Turner played out from the back into Drew Greene who attacked the central midfield before playing it out to Darcie Greene to attack the penalty area and shoot just wide.
46 mins and Hull tried a long shot to catch Laura Wilson out, but she gathered easily.
47 mins the half ended as it began with Hull on the attack, Lucy Turner blocking a shot and Emily Ward quickest to the rebound to run it out and clear, finding Amy Woodruffe but she was tackled and half time blown. 0-3 Hull.
51 mins Hull attacked down the right wing, Elisha James again blocking the cross but conceding the corner, which was cleared.
53 mins Emily Ward played forward into the path of Drew Greene. A covering tackle conceded the throw from which Amy crossed into the penalty are but the ball was cleared before it reached Demi Pringle.
56 mins a Barnsley throw on the right wing into Drew Greene, she passed back to Demi Pringle who swung the ball across field to the left wing where Darcie Greene tried to make progress through the Hull defence but to no avail, but she did find a pass to Bekkie Hale then Amy Woodruffe out to Drew Greene and from the cross Amy Woodruffe shot just wide.
62 mins Substitutions for Barnsley with Laura Windle, Bekkie Hale and Elisha James all coming off to be replaced by Bryony Hudson, Eden Schofield and Alayna Millard, the latter two making their 1st team debuts.
68 mins Bryony Hudson linked up with Eden Schofield in midfield to play the ball over the top of the Hull City defence but it was just too strong for Demi Pringle and it was cleared by the goal keeper.
70 mins Hull city broke through with a hint of offside, but Laura Wilson stayed tall and saved.
74 mins Darcie Greene managed to make space for a shot but it was saved by the goalkeeper
75 mins Eden Schofield brought the ball under control before playing it out to the right wing from where a Drew Greene cross was blocked out for a corner. A good corner by taken Eden Schofield was headed wide by Amy Woodruffe.
76 mins from a Hull corner their left winger cut inside and played into the centre forward but Georgina Wilson managed to clear.
78 mins Hull scored on a break down the right wing channel, shooting across Laura Wilson to score inside the far post. 0-4
81 mins Hull broke from central midfield out towards the right wing, before threading a pass toward the goal line which the winger got to 1st to cross and the resulting shot fizzed just wide
82 mins Drew Greene launched an attack down the right wing supported by Emily Ward whose cross into the penalty area was met by Bryony Hudson but it was cleared by Hull.
83 mins Hull ball through the Barnsley defence saw Georgina Wilson managing to get an outstretched foot to clear from the feet of their centre forward, conceding a corner. That was blocked on the post by Emily Ward for another corner which was cleared safely.
86 mins Amy Woodruffe played the ball over the top of the Hull defence, but Demi Pringle was deemed offside as she was still coming back from pressing the Hull defence, something she had done all game keeping them on their toes but with little reward for her efforts.
87 min Hull broke down the left channel, under pressure from Emily Ward the crossed ball was half blocked by Lucy Turner, but it bounced up nicely for the Hull centre forward to be one on one with Laura Wilson to score 0-5 mins. Claims of offside were waved away as she had been onside when the cross was hit.
88 mins Emily Ward won the ball playing into Bryony Hudson, she found Drew Greene but her cross was cleared.
91 min Alayna Millard broke out from defence, she found a pass to Darcie Greene who attacked the left side of the Hull penalty area before shooting just over the cross bar.
Full time 0-5 to Hull City Ladies, they had made and converted their chances and despite long spells of brave defending Barnsley FC ladies were second best on the day. But there were encouraging signs with new players in the match day team. Player of the match was Demi Pringle and opposition player of the match named as Drew Greene.
