Both teams took to the field knowing that a win today could have a real impact on end of season league position. Barnsley FC Ladies in Red and White and Mossley Hill Athletic in Blue and Yellow.

Barnsley gave league debuts to Lynn Goodman and Isabel Thomas, with Alayna Millard starting her first game at left back. Captain Lucy Turner won the toss and the game was underway.
5th minute Lucy Turner block tackled on the edge of the Barnsley penalty area, it came to Darcie Greene who dribbled across midfield before being tripped, free kick to Barnsley. The ball was played up into the Mossley penalty area and shot goal wards forcing an early save out for a corner.
7 mins from the corner Darcie Greene picked up the ball and dribbled towards the penalty area, before being tripped. Referee was on the spot and pointed to the penalty spot deeming the offence inside the area. Lynn Goodman stepped up and despite the goal keeper guessing right she drilled the ball into the bottom right corner to open her Barnsley Ladies FC account. 1-0
8 min Rebecca Fevers put Darcie through into the left wing channel, she crossed low and the goal keeper dove at the feel of Isabel Thomas and was awarded a free kick.
9 min Lucy Turner blocked a Mossley Hill cross out for a corner, which was swung in high to be shot wide for a goal kick
13 min a Mossley Hill 30 yard shot soared high over the cross bar, but a warning they were here to take any chance that presented itself.
15 min a strong run with the ball down the left wing by Mossley Hill saw the cross blocked out for a corner which Bryony Hudson dealt with easily.
17 min a clearance ball fell to Rebecca Fevers who hit a 30 yard shot straight at the goal keeper.
19 min Mossley Hill No 9 stuck a shot from edge of the penalty area but it was blocked by her own No 10 player trying to get out of the way.
21 min Elisha James picked up the ball in midfield from Emily Ward before switching into Amy Woodruff, but as she turned she lost the ball in a challenge
28 min Mossley Hill crossed from the left wing deep was hit goal ward over Bryony Hudson, smashing against the cross bar, played back in by their No10 which Bryony Hudson pushed away for a corner that was headed over the crossbar for a goal kick
30 min a midfield ball was played through the Barnsley defence into the path of Mossley No9, one on one with the goal keeper, Bryony Hudson saved with her legs and cleared away.
32 min Mossley played another ball into the Barnsley penalty area from the right wing and as Emily Ward dealt with it their No 11 tried to knick in front she was caught, shouts for a penalty were waved away by the Referee
36 min Amy Woodruffe put her foot in to break up a Mossley Hill attack in midfield but the ball went into the path of their No 7 who attacked down to the goal line shepherded by Alayna Millard who blocked the final cross out for a corner.
39 min a Mossley Hill corner was headed right at Bryony Hudson.
42 min Another Mossley Hill corner this time headed up in the air by Lucy Turner, falling for Darcie Greene who despite being pushed over still managed to clear the ball out of the penalty area from the floor. Lucy Turner was alert to it as it fell to a Mossley midfielder and she blocked the shot.
46 min Lynn Goodman and Rebecca Fevers combine in midfield and then release Darcie Greene down the left wing, she is tackled and the ball goes out for a Mossley Hill throw.

Barnsley get the 2nd half under way and 3 minutes in Lynn Goodman plays out to Alayna Millard who makes a break towards the penalty area before hitting a soft shot at the goal keeper.
54 min Mossley Hill attack down their right wing, they are well defended by a combination of Georgina Wilson and Alayna Millard, so play it back out and centrally from where their No6 hits a fierce shot into the top left corner of the goal from 25 yard. 1-1
55 min Changes for Barnsley with Rebecca Fevers replaced by Dianke Volu
56 min Dianke Volu is straight into the action, attacking down the right wing, she pulls back a cross into Amy Woodruffe whose shot is blocked and the rebound shot by Lynn Goodman goes wide.
57 min last gasp defending by Barnsley with Lucy Turner blocking a Mossley Hill shot and Emily Ward just getting her toe to divert the ball away from their No 9 as she was shaping to shoot.
59 min Elisha James makes way for Eden Schofield, with Lynn Goodman dropping into the holding midfield position
62 min Mossley play a back pass to their goal keeper, but under pressure from Isabel Thomas her clearance only goes as far as Darcie Greene. She tries to wriggle clear but her shot is blocked and then gathered by the goal keeper.
65 min Alayna Millard played into Isabel Thomas who released Amy Woodruff down the left wing, but strong defending by Mossley No6 turned defence into attack with her clearance setting No 9 away only to be halted by Lucy Turner sliding in and taking the ball cleanly before the player, again penalty shouts were waved away.
67 min Mossley Hill No 7 tried to win a foot race with Alayna Millard, shoulder to shoulder Alayna blocked her away, again there were penalty shouts but the Referee was unmoved.
70 min and Lucy Turner dived in catching the Mossley No 10 conceding just a free kick on the half way line.
71 min Mossley hill made a substitution.
72 min Eden Schofield, played to Isabel Thomas, receiving the ball back she then played through to Amy Woodruffe to shoot at the goal keeper.
73 min Isabel Thomas received a difficult ball to control following good work by Darcie Greene, and her shot was dealt with. From the goal kick their No9 hit a long shot which rebounded off the Barnsley crossbar.
74 min and Emily Ward put in a strong tackle on Mossley No10 as she threatened to get her shot away in the Barnsley penalty area. Emily managed to play the ball into Amy Woodruffe, who found Dianke Volu before receiving the ball back on the edge of the Mossley penalty area but she was tackled and the attack fizzled out.
76 min a good press on the Mossley Hill goal keeper by Isabel Thomas, saw the keeper’s clearance go only as far as Dianke Volu, she crossed back into Isabel Thomas but her shot was hit high and wide.
77 min Emily Ward managed to get her foot in on half way to win the ball back and played into Amy Woodruffe. She played out to Darcie Greene but her shot was caught by the Mossley Hill goal keeper.
78 min Mossley Hill corner was hit high over the Barnsley crossbar by No 10.
81 min Amy Woodruffe is replaced by Laura Windle with Alayna Millard moving to Left wing from left back and Darcie Greene moving more centrally.
82 min Dianke Volu held up a long ball well, playing into the path of Darcie Greene to shoot but held by the goal keeper.
83 min Emily Ward hit a strong cross field pass from just inside the Mossley Hill half into Alayna Millard, she played a one two with Eden Schofield that cut through the Mossley Hill defensive line. Her shot was just too close to the goal keeper.
86 min a hard coming together in the centre circle left Lucy Turner injured, but play continued down the Mossley Hill right wing and the cross has headed into the Barnsley goal by No9. 1-2.
87 min Mossley No9 was played through the Barnsley defence, from somewhere Lucy Turner managed to get back and tackle the ball clean away, again penalty appeals were waved away.
89 min Darcie Greene is fouled just inside the Barnsley half, the free kick was taken by Bryony Hudson who drilled the ball towards the Mossley Hill goal where it was fumbled by the keeper and Darcie Greene go a toe to push it over the goal line for the equaliser. 2-2.
91 min Lucy Turner headed away a Mossley Hill cross into Laura Windle, she cleared up field to Alayna Millard, she headed into the penalty area before shooting but the goal keeper saved.
Last couple of minutes saw both teams cancelling each other out in midfield before the Referee blew for full time. On their performance today it was hard to see how Mossley Hill were in the WPL Division 1 northern bottom position. They had given Barnsley a hard game and were unlucky not to take the win, but a credit to the spirit of the Barnsley FC Ladies team to keep seeking the equaliser and finally finding it.
