Loss on the road, and a wavy touch line
Following recent wet weather this match was a later kick off of 3pm as the game was switched from grass to astro-turf. The dug out touch line was definitely a little wavy, same for both teams though.
With only one assistant Referee officiating due to illness the Referee decided to use the one assistant to monitor the dug outs, whilst he would monitor the other side.
Barnsley FC Ladies (Blue Kick) won the toss so choose to play with the low sun on their backs. Crewe Alexandria Ladies (Red kit) kicked off to get the game underway.
1 min the first break was Barnsley’s with Emily Ward down the right wing playing into Holly Findlay, she turned into trouble but the ball fell to Drew Greene who attacked the defence playing in Amy Woodruff but she conceded a free-kick for a slight push on the defender as she tried to get into the penalty area.
4 min Darcie Greene managed to win a Barnsley corner when pressing deep in the Crewe area following a throw in. Anna Cairns swung in the corner, although the Crewe Keeper got hands to it, she dropped it over the goal line. 0-1 Barnsley.
7 min Crewe were awarded a free kick 21 yards out but it was hit wide of the target.
9 min Emily Ward played out to Holly Findlay, she was pushed as she attacked. From the free kick Rebecca Fevers swung it from right to left wing playing in Anna Cairns but her shot lacked power and was gathered by the Crewe goal keeper.
11 min Crewe took a throw deep in the Barnsley area, it was laid back and shot wide of the goal. Laura Wilson played out to Holly Findlay, she attempted an over the shoulder shot, but the Crewe keeper reacted quickly pushing the ball out for a corner. Abbie Parkin played the corner short to Anna Cairns who drove at the defender who knocked her over with her shoulder in the penalty area.
16 min Holly Findlay put Drew Greene through drawing the Crewe No4 to her she created space and then she played square back to Holly Findlay to shoot over crossbar.
20 min Amy Woodruff played the ball forward over the top with Holly Findlay pressing the goal keeper who just got to it before her to clear.
22 min Anna Cairns played a one-two with Amy Woodruff, receiving it back to attack down the left wing and win a corner. But it was too deep and Crewe broke quickly but Emily Ward was able to disrupt it down by jockeying and then nicking the ball she played into Lucy Turner who passed to Amy Woodruff, she found Drew Greene but it broke down when she was tackled.
24 min Crewe broke down their right wing channel to the goal line, Darcie Greene covered well but the ball was played back and crossed, resulting in a shot into the top right corner of the goal over Laura Wilson. 1-1
28 min Amy Woodruff drove at the Crewe defence, she was tackled but the ball came to Rebecca Fevers whose shot went over the crossbar.
30 min Referee awarded another free kick against Kristie Ward 25 yards out. Laura Wilson managing to tip the shot onto the cross bar.
32 min Emily Ward played out into Rebecca Fevers who found Drew Greene, with Emily looping down right wing she received the ball from Drew before crossing into Amy Woodruff, but miss control allowed Crewe to clear.
35 min Rebecca Fevers played down the wing into Drew Greene who won a throw. Emily Ward found Holly Findlay from the throw controlling well she crossed into Amy Woodruff to shoot over.
39 min Amy Woodruff was strong in midfield to hold off Crewe No14 and win a free kick.
42 min a Crewe handball gave Anna Cairns the opportunity to cross into the area but Crewe No5 managed to clear before Amy Woodruff.
43 min Barnsley free kick when Drew Greene was clipped. Anna Cairn shot wide.
44 min Amy Woodruff, Holly Findlay and Drew Greene linked up well but when Drew was tackled on the edge of the area the ball fell to Abbie Parkin. She shot low from 36 yards but the goal keeper saved.

49 min Darcie Greene made a promising attack forward down the left before being stopped by the Crewe defence.
50 min Holly Findlay threaded the ball out to Rebecca Fevers on the right wing, she swung the back to Amy Woodruff to shoot just wide.
54 min from a Barnsley free-kick Abbie Parkin’s cross was cleared and Crewe were quickly on the break over half way, Darcie Greene stalled the break and Emily Ward covering cleared the ball away.
57 min changes for Barnsley with Amy Woodruff replaced by Bekkie Hale with Holly Findlay moving to left wing and Anna Cairns into centre mid. Bekkie joining Drew Greene up front.
58 min Bekkie Hale conceded a foul right in front of the Referee and when in the 59th min she did the same he decided to have a little word.
62 min Barnsley throw was controlled by Bekkie Hale, who turned and threaded the ball to Drew Greene. She drove across the Crewe defence before getting her shot away and watched it saved by the goal keeper.
67 min tight on the touch line Bekkie Hale linked up with Holly Findlay, receiving it back more centrally to shoot, but it was gathered easily by the keeper.
69 min Barnsley corner taken by Abbie Parkin was attacked by Kristie Ward across the goal keeper, a little too strong for the referee who awarded a free kick against her.
71 min a lovely Barnsley move started by Bekkie Hale, into Anna Cairns and then out to Rebecca Fevers moved play quickly from left to right wing. The keeper stood tall and saved the shot.
77 min Crewe corner and this time it was Laura Wilson who was robustly taken out as she went to gather the cross. No Free kick awarded but Crewe hit the ball out for a goal kick. From which Laura Wilson played out left to Kristie Ward whose pass to Abbie Parkin in centre midfield was slightly under hit allowing the Crewe No10 to intercept and one on one with Laura Wilson centrally she calmly stroked the ball inside the left hand post. 2-1 Crewe.
81 min Crewe attacked to the goal line before crossing, Laura Wilson managed to get her fingers to it and diverted away from the centre forward and the ball was cleared by Darcie Greene.
83 min Abbie Parkin played out to Rebecca Fevers who released Holly Findlay down the right wing channel before receiving the ball back to shoot wide.
83 min Abbie Parkin was substituted for Elisha James.
85 min Bekkie Hale conceded a free kick just inside the Crewe half, the ball was played quickly through the Barnsley defence whose appeals for offside were ignored, leaving the Crewe centre forward one on one with Laura Wilson to score inside the left hand post.
90 min Crewe were running down the clock in the corner with Darcie Greene trying to get the ball. Kristie Ward came across and kicked the ball out for a throw, but was adjudged to have been too careless in doing so conceding a free-kick. Which was safely cleared up field and the final whistle
