A crisp sunny autumnal day as Barnsley FC Ladies arrived on the outskirts of Lancaster to play Morecambe Ladies. Barnsley FC Ladies lined up in their away Blue and Morecambe in Red and Black strip to observe the 1 minute silence and remember the fallen #LestWeForget.

Morecambe Ladies won the toss and opted to play into the low sun first half.
2 min a change of formation for Barnsley 4-4-2 with Drew Greene and Demi Pringle up front and it paid off as Amy Woodruff played the ball out of midfield for Drew Greene to run onto, she drew two defenders to her before playing square to Demi Pringle who calmly hit the shot across the Morecambe goal keeper and into the bottom left of the goal 0-1.
8 min Amy Woodruff was judged to be a little too strong with a nudge, free kick to Morecambe 25 yards out but the wall did its job with the ball rebounding out to Drew Greene. She played short to Amy Woodruff who switched play from left to right wing where Emily Ward played it down the wing toward Rebecca Fevers and won a throw midway in the Morecambe half.
11 min Anna Cairns knocked the ball over the top of the Morecambe defence for Amy Woodruff to run onto, but her first touch was a little heavy and it allowed the defender to slide in conceding a corner. Abbie Parkin hit a good corner into six yard area but it was headed clear and Morecambe launched forward quickly, only to be thwarted by a well-timed sliding tackle by Lucy Turner.
16 min Lucy Turner cleared up field to Drew Greene, who tried to play in Demi Pringle the Morecambe defender reacted quickly to tackle clear, but only as far as Anna Cairns who played the ball back into the danger area for it to be cleared again. Drew Greene picked up and tried to run at the defence, passing into Demi Pringle and then out to Emily Ward to cross into the penalty area just over Amy Woodruff and the attack subsided.
18 min Demi Pringle made a good run into the left wing channel, she picked out Amy Woodruff centrally just inside the penalty area but her shot was blocked, it fell to Rebecca Fevers and her shot was caught by the goalkeeper.
19 min Abbie Parkin won the ball in midfield, picking out Demi Pringle she played back to Drew Greene who switched play through Amy Woodruff out to Emily Ward crossing back to Amy Woodruff, only to have her high foot penalised as the Defender stooped to get to the ball first.
25 min Barnsley’s defensive set up was acting as an organised unit leaving Morecambe no gaps to play through and they had to settle for playing it around with no penetration finally frustrated having to resort to a long shot which was dealt with easily by Laura Wilson.
26 min a Morecambe cross into the Barnsley penalty area was headed away by Kristie Ward, Abbie Parkin picked up in midfield and played out right to Rebecca Fevers who hit a long ball which Amy Woodruff competed strongly for and when she was tripped by the defender the penalty appeal had some merit, but a corner was awarded instead. Another well struck corner from Abbie Parkin fizzed across the six yard area beating both Barnsley and Morecambe heads.
30 min at the other end of the field a Morecambe corner was headed clear twice by Amy Woodruff, launching a Barnsley break which ended with her hitting a shot from distance just over the Morecambe cross bar.
33 min Morecambe right side corner was headed cleanly goal wards but Laura Wilson was well placed to palm it and into a catch under the cross bar.
34 min Demi Pringle was played through but the Morecambe keeper was quickly out to save at her feet.
36 min Morecambe No 9 slipped away from Amy Woodruff and dinked a ball over the top of the Barnsley defence for their No10 to hit into the top right of the goal, 1-1.
41 min Amy Woodruff drove strongly forward before laying the ball off to Demi Pringle ruled just offside.
Half-Time 1-1, Barnsley had controlled Morecambe in the 1st half well and made chances. All still to play for.
By the start of the 2nd half the sun was even lower, with Laura Wilson remarking she could not see which players were wearing Blue and which were in Red/Black.

47 min Emily Ward linked up with Rebecca Fevers to play in Demi Pringle to win a corner. Abbie Parkin swung in and Amy Woodruff headed but it was cleared only as far as Anna Cairns to play back to Abbie Parkin to cross in again this time caught by the goal keeper.
51 min despite being pushed strongly off the ball Lucy Turner still cleared as Morecambe threatened the Barnsley penalty area.
54 min Anna Cairns hit a long forward pass and with pressure from Amy Woodruff the defender conceded a corner.
55 min Morecambe attacked down the left wing to the goal line, unable to safely make a tackle in the penalty area, Emily Ward nipped in to play the ball away from the winger and away for a throw. From the throw a shot was struck low from edge of the penalty area, which Laura Wilson quickly moved to her left to push the ball wide of the left hand post for a corner.
58 min Morecambe threaded through the Barnsley defence almost a reply of their 1st half goal but this time their No10 hit into the side netting.
60 min Darcie Greene found Anna Cairns down the left wing, she linked up with Amy Woodruff, but when her way forward was defended, she played back to Anna Cairns to pass centrally to Abbie Parkin, 30 yards out she hit her shot into the top left corner of the goal. 1-2 Barnsley
61 min Morecambe attacked down their left, turning inside and outside Lucy Turner and Abbie they hit a low soft shot which Laura Wilson dealt with easily.
63 min breath was held when Darcie Greene under hit a back pass, Laura Wilson hesitated, set off , stopped and then set off again just reaching the ball before the Morecambe attacker saving with her legs.
70 min Demi Pringle played in Drew Greene whose shot was blocked, rebounding to Rebecca Fevers her shot was also blocked.
73 min Emily Ward made a double block and then as she broke free was tackled cleanly but strongly that caused her to fall heavily on her shoulder. After some ‘tender words’ from Ian Clarke and Kristie Ward she was back on her feet.
Changes in the 78th min with Demi Pringle and Amy Woodruff making way for Holly Findlay and Laura Shepherd.
83 min Holly Findlay caught a Morecambe player just outside of the Barnsley penalty area, with two in the wall Laura Wilson caught the shot easily despite the sun in her eyes.
89 min Holly Findlay put pressure on the Morecambe defence, Abbie Parkin intercepted the clearance and played it out left to Anna Cairns, she threaded the ball through for Drew Greene to take on the goal keeper calmly rounding her and tapping into the open goal 1-3 Barnsley.

90 min a very tired Morecambe attack resulted in a low shot gathered by Laura Wilson. Her kick forward reached Holly Findlay to shoot goal wards but caught by the Morecambe keeper.

91st min, Anna Cairns tried a long shot from 35m out which just went over the cross bar. Full time blown as the ball re-entered play.
Final score 1-3, a great all round team performance with Player of the Match Abbie Parkin for her goal and governance of the central midfield. Some very important games coming up next which could determine if Barnsley can secure mid table status or have a nervous run into the end of the season.
