Reds edged out in nine goal thriller

The Reds were on the road for their second league game as they took on Boldmere St Michaels.

The Reds started the game brightly and although the hosts had a lot of the ball, did not threaten in the early stages. The first incident in a game full of them came after Summer Reece felt the full force of an elbow from the hosts winger, with the referee not even questioning the deliberate elbow.

A minute after the restart the Reds were unlucky not to be in front through Tanya Fozzard who managed to get in between the defender and goalkeeper, but for a deflection knocking it onto the post, we would have been 1-0 up.

The Reds early chances paid dividends in the 22nd minute. A fantastic cross by Amber Sewell was headed in brilliantly by Millie Fugler, on her league debut.

After taking the lead, the Reds had a little wobble and the hosts capitalised through a deflected free kick. After this the game became a little scrappy, despite the Reds efforts, the hosts long ball to the wingers were making a difference, as was the hosts manager, still not over being sent off against us last season. (We see you are watching our socials, thank you for tuning in and for engaging with us, you do you!).

Just before half time the hosts tactics worked for them as their winger, who potentially should not have been on the pitch, punished the Reds with a great finish.

Half Time. BSM 2-1 The Reds.

The Reds started the half really brightly, and got back into the game in the 48th Minute. Another pinpoint corner from Amber Sewell was bundled in by Charlotte Stuart, back in Red, to make it 2 a piece.

As was the theme of the afternoon, as soon as we equalised, the visitors managed to get in front, after a mix up gave the hosts number 8 a chance and she bend it around our defence well.

The Reds tried to bounce back by creating a few openings which didn't really come to much in the end. Just as the Reds were getting back on top, the visitors scored from a corner as their captain headed in to make it 4-2.

Not in the mood to dwell on the goal, Charlotte Stuart had other ideas and spotting the keeper off her line she took a punt straight from kick off and it bundled in to make it 4-3 and game on.

The Reds were back level after 69 minutes through Helen Lynskey, spotting the keeper having a slight wobble (after being outstanding in first half) decided to have a go from a free kick and it went in. Deservedly back in the game.

The theme of the game struck again, with the Reds looking to get in the lead, a long ball across the wing and a ball in the middle was cooly finished by the hosts number 9. 5-4 down in the game. It would have looked for the neutral it was a spectacle of football, but in truth it wasn't.

With 10 minutes to play, the winger who could have been sent off in the first half, saw her second yellow for a naughty challenge. The Reds were unable to capitalise on this and the game ended with a narrow defeat.

Team: Clarke (C), Reece(Russell 88'), Housecroft (Woodcock 88'), Smith, Fugler, Stuart, Norde(Walton 88'), Rolandsen, Sewell, Lynskey, Fozzard (Jarvis' 35).

Unit's thoughts: The Reds did not lack effort, desire and endeavour. I can't remember a good goal we conceded, so I know the ladies are looking to bounce back. I firmly believe that dugout 'banter' and things getting heated should be for the dugout and once off the pitch, it stops and you move on/show respect. Some members of the hosts staff outside of the dugout need to really look at how they speak and treat people. One to move on from and will not define our season. WE GO AGAIN.
