Barnsley Women hosted Chorley at Oakwell Stadium in a closely contested match that ended in a goalless draw. Both teams showed their offensive intent from the start, with Barnsley's Emily Pierrepont and Courtney Csomor both having early shots at goal, however, both were unable to find the back of the net.
In the 20th minute, Barnsley's Marshall had a great chance to take the lead, but her header just went over the crossbar. A few minutes later, Pierrepont showed some lovely footwork to beat a few defenders before curling a shot just wide. Serena Clarke, the Chorley keeper, was called into action in the 35th minute with a comfortable catch from an attempted lob.
The first half was a disappointing one with few clear-cut chances, and the teams went into the break with the score at 0-0. In the second half, Chorley came out with more intent and had a great chance in the 53rd minute, but the header from close range went just wide. The visitors hit the post in the 60th minute, but the flag was raised for offside.
The game ended in a goalless draw, with both teams having their chances to take all three points, but neither were able to convert.
It was a tightly contested match with both teams showing their offensive intent, but Chorley were well structured, and a lack of finishing ability meant that the points were shared.
