On the 30th of April we played York City at our home Recreation Ground, and what a tight and crazy match it was!
5 minutes in and you can tell Barnsley Women aren't here to mess around because GOAAAAAALLLLLL!!! Taviah Myles launches a bullet header flying into the back of the net!!!! This ONLY fuels York City further, and within 3 minutes York City also score, equalising already. Mistakes were made by the Barnsley fullbacks, and the York striker of course takes full advantage. 1-1 at 8 minutes into the first half.
Quick time response from Barnsley! GOAAAAAAL with another header! This time from Amy Beck through a corner. Barnsley have the upper hand and the chance to make a gap between the teams score lines... but of course, York also fight to equalise, and we end the half 2-2.
York City come back from their half time break and score again, 3-2 to York City. From then on our Reds lose a bit of their forward motion and lack a bit of fight...BUT! AMY BECK SCORES AGAIN! MAKING IT 3 ALL! Ball flies into the box and Beck drives the ball into the top right corner. Brilliant play from her!
With hardly anytime left of the match, both sides are fighting for that goal to put them on top, and GOOOAAAAALLL! Barnsley do it again! Nat Watson creates the lead, what a goal! 4-3 TO BARNSLEY!
However... with 5 minutes extra time York manage to equalise, creating a tie of 4-4. What a well fought game by both sides, real determination displayed by all!
Well done to Amy Beck who got player of the match with her great goal against York City.
Well played you Reds.
