Match Report vs Norton & Stockton Ancients LFC

Scott Reed7 Mar 2023 - 14:20

Clean sheet continued!!

Another week and another opportunity for BWFC to continue their good
run of form this month as they faced Norton and Stockton Ancients who
sat in the bottom half coming off a good win against relegation rivals
Bradford City. A win would keep us in the race at the top but a loss would see us
drop 8 points off Newcastle in 2nd if they won their game.

We got underway at 2pm and just 4 minutes in Biggins fashioned herself
a chance after a brilliant bit of skill for the keeper to make a good
save to deny her. We dominated the ball in the opening stages and
after a good win from a corner nodded down to the 6 yard box Nat Shaw
managed to open the scoring after she went close just 10 minutes
previously.

Norton nearly struck back straight after with a shot missing narrowly
wide in the 27th minute.

The game was relatively quiet until the half time break with Biggins
firing over the bar after a nice pass from Shaw being the closest
either side came to scoring since Shaw’s opener.

A strong position to be in at half time and with the Reds looking the
better side we were hoping to put the game to bed in the second half.

7 minutes in Louise Biggins took her chance this time and made it 2
nil. Her first senior goal for the club with many more to come.

BWFC continued to make their mark on the second half with Marsden this
time slotting it between goalkeeper and defender to nestle in the
bottom left corner. 3 -0 up and the girls had surely wrapped the game
up now.

A 4th goal for the Reds separated the 2 subs of the half with Biggins
dinking the keeper after a through ball, Nat Watson was replaced by
Maddie Foye 65 minutes in and Delia Hurdiss replacing Amy Beck.

Hurdiss made an instant impact when her edge of the box strike found
itself in the top right corner making it 5.

The game ended 6 – 0 after a late Louise Biggins backheel sent through
Shaw to coolly put it away.

5 games on the spin now with a clean sheet and a thoroughly deserved
scoreline after a good team performance with MOTM Louise Biggins
stepping up from the youth system leading the line especially well.

We face Norton again next week, this time at home with the manager
keen to see another good performance on and off the ball again. We
currently sit 3rd.
