Tuesday night lights gave our Barnsley Women's first team the ideal opportunity and environment to welcome Bradford AFC to our home grounds for a late night kick off.
From 10 minutes in Barnsley are on the offensive pushing for goal after goal, with Beck having a shot on target saved by the Bradford keeper and quickly after Pierrepont volleying just wide. The attack continues however Bradford have a lucky break which is met by a comfortable save from Clark.
Pierrepont has another ambitious attempt at 22 minutes and a couple minutes later we have our first goal of the match! Shaw volleys the ball into the back of the net after a lot of play in the box! This leaves Barnsley with a 1-0 lead at an early 25 minutes in.
With a few more opportunities taken for shots on goal from Shaw and Beck, Barnsley keep attacking the Bradford ends, unfortunately struggling to convert any of these to goals. Half time comes along with a brilliant lead for Barnsley 1-0 Bradford.
The teams come out for the second half and its clear that Barnsley are fighting for another goal to create a bigger lead. 5 minutes in and Pierrepont has another shot on goal that skims the bar. However Bradford attack on the break and have a flying attempt at a long shot goal, hitting the bar but missing the net of our Barnsley women's.
Barnsley keep up the attack and persevere for the second goal, but also do a brilliant job of defending their half against Bradford as they have a flurry of chances against our backline at 77 minutes.
With subs of Biggins on for Shaw and Hurdiss for Beck, we have fresh legs for the final few minutes to push for a final attack.
At full time the score remained with a huge win Barnsley 1- 0 Bradford City, a stellar score for the girls after the semi cup final; brining back confidence and skill with every minute played.
Congratulations for Delia on her first team debut!
More to see from the girls when they're back on the pitch on the 26th of Feb vs Stockport (A).
