It was a Warm and Sunny evening at the Recreation Ground for this Evening Pre-Season friendly against Ossett United Ladies, who always compete right through our games with them.

The Reds get this pre-season friendly game underway having lost the toss.
11’: Georgia Wilson lifts the ball above the defence for Emily Pierrepont to run onto, she turns inside to shoot inside the 18 yard box but her attempt is saved by the goalkeeper
12’: GOAL! Georgia Wilson, in front of the defence she manages to lift the ball over the goalkeeper’s head into the net
15’: Ossett left sided winger picks the ball on the left edge of the box, brings the ball onto her right foot and strikes the ball against the bar, but the follow up goes wide, score remains 1-0 to Barnsley
23’: Overhit cross from the right side, over to the left side, left back of Ossett creates space for herself but her shot drags wide left, remains 1-0
28’: Mazy run from halfway from Emily Pierrepont, who carries it to the byline, tries to square across goal but the cross is intercepted by the Ossett goalkeeper
35’: Another play down the left side, Foye playing Pierrepont down the line, who beats the defender, ball drops outside the box but is dragged wide
37’: Pierrepont beats her opposing number and under pressure manages to put the ball across the box, dropping kindly to a Barnsley forward foot but it is saved by the Ossett keeper
41’: GOAL! Issy No4 beats her defender inside left of the box, and squares it across for Courtney Csomor to hit into an empty net,

Ossett Utd get the second half underway
59’: Ossett build play down the left side, played into the left winger on a tight angle who strikes a ball on the turn over the bar
67’: Goal for Ossett United, delightful lifted ball through the middle of our team and hit beyond the goalkeeper. 2-1
70’: exchange of passes by Barnsley down the right side between Csomor, Myles and Marshall, but the eventual cross is hit just too far and comes to nothing
74’: Interplay centrally by Ossett United, Barnsley maintain shape and eventually frustrate Ossett into taking a shot from 30 yards which is easily gathered by Hobson in goal, 2-1
76’: Switch of play by Marshall to Pierrepont, who comes inside to create an angle for a shot, but the goalkeeper gathers
82' Ossett pressing hard for the equiliser but the Reds are keeping their shape well and remain in control of the pace of this game

Full time 2-1 win for Barnsley Women FC

As the gloom settles over the Recreation ground this was a tougher test but the Reds came through it. Another game with positives to bring into the first game of the season in 12 days. Thank you to Ossett Untied for giving us a good game which was commented on as being a lovely example of how football should be played between two teams who want to play.
