SHFA County Cup Winners again after extra time & penalties

In the week building up to this end of season Cup final, Manager Chris Hamilton gave his match preview and Captain Lucy Turner gives her Match preview to Reds in the Community
Our thanks to the Old Picture House for hosting our First Team for the pre-match meal
Then travel to the game in style courtesy of Yorkshire Rose Coaches made sure the team arrived refreshed but focused.

The teams walked out onto the New York Stadium pitch just before 3pm, led by this year’s Womens FA Cup Final Assistant Referee Mel Burgin, into warm sunshine flanked by team mascots, for the Reds these were representatives of all our teams from U9 to U13.

And lined up for the handshake

The Reds got the final underway and Kathryn Smith was fouled in the 2nd minute centrally 28 yards out. Sophie Crosby hit a rocket goal wards which the Huddersfield No14 Cara Bickett centre back took full in the face, Ouch.
4 mins Danielle Whitham swung in a corner which the goal keeper tipped away and her defenders cleared
6 mins Rebecca Hornsey hit a ball over the Huddersfield defence into the left wing channel which Drew Greene burst through and took it into the penalty area drawing out the keeper and defender before she calmly squared across the area into the path of her sister Darcie Greene to smash into the open goal. Barnsley 1-0.
7:33 Huddersfield corner from the left, they played it low to the front and then back out to cross back in, but Lucy Turner was quickly out to challenge on the edge of the area and clear away.
10:16 Drew Greene managed to somehow hit a ball over her shoulder and the Huddersfield defence from the centre line, Lissa Woodhouse was quickly onto it and found herself 1 on 1 with the goal keeper, she stayed calm and lifted it over her and into the goal. Barnsley 2-0.
12:10 Huddersfield broke down the left wing with No19 Lucy Sowerby, she crossed over everyone in the penalty area and No21 Ainsley Strickland came in and hit a shot goal wards which Skye Kirkham tipped over the cross bar.
15 min Kathryn Smith jumped up to take a ball on her chest but landed awkwardly and had to come off replaced by Amy Woodruff.
16:30 Danielle Whitham hit a free-kick into the penalty area but the goal keeper came out to gather.
20:30 Danielle Whitham was pushed off the ball in a challenge with No19 Lucy Sowerby which was deemed fair and Huddersfield crossed towards the back post where Skye Kirkham was out bravely to dive at the feet of No4 Kate Mallin.
23 min Sophie Crosby cleared up the left wing to send Drew Greene racing forward towards the goal line before pulling it back towards the penalty spot where is was reached by No8 Charley Evans before Sophie Bell could reach it.
24:30 Calm defending by Danielle Whitham in the left hand corner under pressure but she turned and cleared up the right wing to Lissa Woodhouse, she hit it over the Huddersfield defence and set off after it right to the goal line, but was unable to prevent it going for a goal kick. But from the goal kick Drew Greene was fouled 30 yards out and Sophie Crosby took the free-kick which had to be tipped wide of the top right by goal keeper.
27:40 Yellow card Unsporting behaviour caution against Huddersfield No8 Charley Evans for spoiling a promising attack for bringing Lissa Woodhouse down. The resulting free-kick was taken by Danielle Whitham into the penalty area where it bounced up, there were appeals for handball but these were waved away.
28:20 Barnsley free kick taken by Danielle Whitham takes an unexpected bounce in the penalty area, but shouts of handball are waved away by the Referee
32:30 Huddersfield break down the right wing following a throw in, their number 9 Sarah Danby on the turn shoots and it just grazes the crossbar
33:20 Huddersfield number 8 Charley Evans is spoken to again following a foul on Amy Woodruff
34:10 Sophie Crosby hits a free kick into the penalty area but it bounces all the way through with no contact made.
35:30 Annie Ward intercepts a free kick into the Barnsley box and quickly releases Drew Greene up the left wing, she squares it into Lissa Woodhouse but she is blocked off strongly by Huddersfield No8 Charley Evans and penalty appeals quickly waved away.
37:20 Huddersfield ball through the left channel was cleared by Lucy Turner under pressure out for a throw which was taken by No 8 Charley Evans long into the Barnsley penalty area when No21 Ainsley Strickland shot on the turn just wide of the left hand post.
40 Huddersfield were finishing the half strongly breaking forward two on Annie Ward, but she stuck with No4 as she raced into the penalty area before playing the ball back into the path of No9 Sarah Danby but she scuffed her shot wide.
41:46 Huddersfield broke up the right through No4 Kate Mallin right upto the goal line, Skye Kirkham came across to close the angle however the cross was cruelly deflected off the diving attempt to block by Lucy Turner and sneaked into the goal at the far post. 2-1.
44:20 Huddersfield up the right wing again, spud came across to block the 1st shot and then Skye Kirkham just managed to clear the second shot with her feet.
45:05 corner from Huddersfield left was taken short and then swung in toward the back post, under pressure Skye Kirkham secured the cross to ground and received a cheeky late kick from No19 Lucy Sowerby. She received treatment and after the match was confirmed a broken little finger.
47:50 Huddersfield cross in from the right wing was headed over the crossbar by No4 Kate Mallin with Skye Kirkham covering.
Half-time and a chance to regroup by Barnsley having withstood building pressure in the latter moments of the half.
2nd half, no changes from both teams and Huddersfield got us underway.
50 min a Huddersfield cross in from the left was headed up by Darcie Greene and then Sophie Crosby was awarded a free-kick for a push on her
51 min Sophie Crosby throw in which Lissa Woodhouse headed on into Sophie Bell, but Lissa Woodhouse looped round her to receive the ball back more centrally and shoot goal ward but it was blocked out for a corner.
53 Sophie Crosby swung in the corner and the Huddersfield keeper tipped it over the crossbar
55:40 Barnsley cleared only as far as Huddersfield No8 Charley Evans who hit a left foot shot which Skye Kirkham saved pushing it out to her left and with an open goal gaping for Huddersfield No31 Ainsley Strickland, Annie Ward slid herself across to block the shot out for a corner which Skye Kirkham caught safely.
59 min Sophie Crosby released Drew Greene up the left wing, she took the defender all the way to the corner before turning back on herself and crossing into the penalty area from where it was cleared. But Darcie Greene won it back in midfield and was then fouled 28 yards out as she tried to go forward. From the free kick taken by Sophie Crosby the goal keeper caught securely.
61 min Huddersfield No 4 Kate Mallin managed to evade the Barnsley offside trap, Annie Ward managed to get back to half block the shot which Skye palmed away and then the rebound shot went over the crossbar.
64 min Drew Greene pressed and then won the ball back on halfway, she played back to Sophie Crosby who hit a long ball over the top of the Huddersfield defence for Lissa Woodhouse to run onto. The Huddersfield No14 Cara Bickett was back first but pressure from Lissa resulted in a Barnsley corner which Danielle Whitham swung in straight into the keeper.
67:40 Huddersfield changes with No 3 Shauna Legge coming on for No 15 Kerry Hope.
69 min Huddersfield No4 Kate Mallin attacked down the left, turning inside and crossed as Lucy Turner slipped into No19 Lucy Sowerby to score across Skye Kirkham from close range. 2-2.
73:40 instructions from Manager Chris Hamilton for Danielle Whitham to move up into midfield and Sophie Bell to drop into right back. Almost straight away a chance as Danielle Whitham shot on the turn just wide of the top corner.
75 min Huddersfield No 3 Shauna Legged own the right wing and crossed but Skye Kirkham caught cleanly.
75:58 Huddersfield missed a shot from 35 yards over the crossbar
81 Huddersfield No18 Sarah Dobby tried from 30 yards out, once again going over the crossbar
85 min Sophie Bell hit a free kick forward, Amy Woodruff headed on and Darcie Greene controlled but her cross was blocked away for a corner. Sophie Crosby swung in the corner and the keeper tipped over the crossbar. 2nd attempt and Danielle Whitham recovered the long cross playing back to Drew Greene who crossed deep just over Amy Woodruff at the far post and out for a goal kick.

89:20 Skye Kirkham took a goal kick which Huddersfield No 8 Charley Evans trapped, but Darcie Greene was quickly on her and managed to stab the ball though to Lissa Woodhouse racing forward into the Huddersfield half, she then played a square ball into the path of Amy Woodruff who calmly slotted the ball passed the out rushing keeper and inside the left hand post 3-2 Barnsley.
90:50 Huddersfield substitution No7 Katie Nutter on for No12 Ella Harris
92:10 Huddersfield broke down the left and into the Barnsley penalty area, rounding the attempted challenge from Rebecca Hornsey but Annie Ward slid across to win the ball back
93:30 Sophie Bell cleared forward into Amy Woodruff who dribbled in and out of 3 Huddersfield defenders before shooting from 20 yards out but the keeper saved at full stretch.
94:30 Lissa Woodhouse almost reached another through ball into the area but the keeper just made it first to clear.
94:50 from the goal kick Danielle Whitham took the legs of No10 Laura Elford as she tried to tackle on the edge of the penalty area. Referee awarded the penalty which No 4 Kate Mallin hit wide of Skye Kirkham and inside the left hand post. 3-3 all square again.
98:15 Whistle blew and we were going into extra time.
Huddersfield got extra time underway
101 min Sophie Crosby cleared up the left wing into Drew Greene, she drove forward and crossed into the side netting.
104 min Darcie Greene cleared over the top of the Huddersfield defence and Amy Woodruff was away but under pressure she shot wide
107 min Sophie Crosby hit a cross field pass over the top of the Huddersfield defence and once again Amy Woodruff had a shooting chance and again hit it wide.
109:14 Barnsley substitutions with Lissa Woodhouse who had run herself all over the pitch making way for Mollie Crump.
110:30 Mollie Crump held up the attack of No4 Kate Mallin but she still managed to cross in, but Annie Ward was alert and managed to get her toe to clear away.
113:50 Excellent terrier like work by Danielle Whitham in midfield won the ball back before releasing Drew Greene up the left wing and into the penalty area before being tackled.
Half time in Extra time and still all square.
Barnsley started the final period of the game
115 min Rebecca Hornsey made a tried challenge resulting in a Huddersfield free kick 20 yards out but Skye Kirkham held onto it.
117:40 Huddersfield down the right ending with a shot from No9 Sarah Danby which Danielle Whitham threw herself across to block away for a corner. The corner was cleared but hit back in by Sarah Danby and this time Annie Ward blocked, Barnsley were putting their bodies on the line.
120 min Drew Greene won the ball back and raced forward but No10 Laura Elford cleared, but Danielle Whitham collected and played into Sophie Bell on the overlapping run crossing into the box but into the goal keeper.
121 min Huddersfield corner headed away by Lucy Turner but then shot back in over the cross bar.
123 min Huddersfield broke into the Barnsley penalty area but there was Rebecca Hornsey sliding in with a well-timed clean tackle to win the ball back.
123:40 Huddersfield No7 Katie Nutter hit a shot from the edge of the penalty area which Skye Kirkham saved passed her left post out for a corner. Annie Ward headed the corner bravely away under pressure.
125:38 Huddersfield changes with N017 Arianne Parnham coming on for No19 Lucy Sowerby.
127 min Huddersfield corner was headed clear by Sophie Crosby and the follow up shot was way over the cross bar.
127:30 min Drew Greene released Amy Woodruff up the left wing, she was prevented making progress forward by good defence and played back to Sophie Crosby to swing the ball cross field into Mollie Crump but she was defended well and the ball cleared.
129 min Final Whistle 3-3, this County Cup Final would be decided by penalties.
Barnsley were up first with Sophie Crosby: Scored. Huddersfield Kate Mallin: Saved Skye Kirkham managing to get a hand to it as she went down the middle
Danielle Whitham: Scored inside the right hand post. Huddersfield Sarah Danby: Saved by Skye Kirkham low down to her right
Annie Ward next: Scored smashing it to the right of the keeper. Huddersfield Katie Nutter: Scored top right.
Sophie Bell: Scored into the top right and it was all over as she raced away to be engulfed by her team mates, Barnsley FC Ladies were the 2018/19 SHFA County Cup Winners, 4-1 on penalties.
Then came the trophy presentation and celebrations

There was no individual Cawa Coffee player of the match as all the Team today were deemed players of the match, although special mention to Reds’ goalkeeper Skye Kirkham who played the whole of the second half with a (highly) suspected broken finger, and then went and saved two penalties to win us the trophy.
