Semi-final success sees Reds through to their fourth SHFA County Cup final in four years

A breezy but dry King of Soho stadium was the venue for this semi-final SHFA County cup sponsored by SGP Graves & Thorncliffe which was postponed from last weekend. Worksop Town Ladies FC play in the SHWGCL Open Age 1 Division which is 3 divisions below the Reds, but as Barnsley themselves have done twice before this season it is still possible to beat the higher team in a one off cup game. They lined up in their black and gold home kit and Barnsley in their usual Red one.

3 min Barnsley were quickly into their stride with good work from Lissa Woodhouse as she pulled a cross back and Darcie Greene hit one from 15 yards out just wide.
8 min short stoppage in play as Workshop no3 went down with an ankle injury which after treatment saw her return to the game
11 min a succession of Barnsley corners were defended away by Sheehan & Brooks.
16 min Hannah Campbell held the ball up, made space before playing the ball into Mollie Crump who hit a volley from 10 yards out just over the cross bar.
20 min another chance for Barnsley this time Annie Ward could keep her half volley on target as the ball is recycled from a corner.
22 min Sophie Bell escapes the offside trap and goes in for a 50/50 against the keeper, the ball spurts out and falls at the feet of Hannah Campbell, but she is unable to steer her shot goal wards
32 min a speculative effort from Drew Greene flies over the cross bar from 20 yards
33 min finally from a Sophie Crosby corner there is Sophie Bell rising high to nod the ball into the goal, 0-1 Barnsley
37 min Mollie Crump found space down the left, her shot is saved by Kathryn Wood but Hannah Campbell, sponsored by Hoyland Wealth Management, was on hand to bundle the ball into the back of the net 0-2
40 min Sophie Bell smack her shot against the woodwork with the Worksop keeper well beaten.
41 min Reds break again, this time it is Hannah Campbell who is played clear but her curling shot is well saved at a tight angle.
44 min a speculative effort by Worksop from a long way out causes problems for Reds keeper Skye Kirkham, but she makes sure it stays out of her net.
Half time and the Reds are dominant and definitely in the driving seat.
53 min a lot of the game is being played in the middle of the pack as Worksop manage to contain Barnsley

56 min Barnsley corner sees attempt by Lissa Woodhouse well saved but the ball breaks out to Rebecca Hornsey on the edge of the area whose shot goes just wide
65 min Penalty to Barnsley, but Sophie Bell sees her effort well saved, but Drew Greene reacts quickest to the rebound and volleys home. 0-3
66 min Barnsley substitution with Amy Woodruff back from injury replacing Mollie Crump
67 min Lissa Woodhouse sees her shot just go over after great build up play by Barnsley
69 min Lissa Woodhouse somehow manages to get her head on the ball as she was back pedalling from 12 yards out but the Worksop keeper just manages to tip it over the cross bar.
70 min Shannon Durkin comes on for Hannah Campbell
72 min a Reds corner is flicked on at the front post by Lissa Woodhouse but keeper Wood is on hand to tip it onto the cross bar, Worksop eventually clear.
77 min Shannon Durkin twists and turns the defender but took too long to pull the trigger allowing the defender to recover and block.
80 min and Worksop have their first real chance as a deep free-kick from Brooke Chapell is headed towards goal by Leah Hardy but it is tipped just around the post.
88 min Amy Woodruff was played in by Shannon Durkin, unmarked at the back post somehow she managed to put it wide.

Full time and after a comfortable second half it is the Reds who come out as 0-3 winners. Onwards now to the New York stadium on 12th of May for the final against Huddersfield Town Ladies again!!!.

Cawa Coffee Player of the Match for a stellar midfield performance is Rebecca Hornsey
