Honours even in this pre-Christmas cracker of a Friendly

With a Home win walkover in the Sheffield and Hallamshire County cup due to Rovers Foundation unable to field a side, this friendly was arranged against Wolverhampton Wanderers Women FC who lie 2nd in FAWNL Midland Division 1.
Oakwell was bathed in Winder sunlight as the teams took to the pitch with Barnsley FC Ladies opting for their Away Blue Kit.
With Wolves winning the toss it was Barnsley who kicked off. Both teams played a high tempo first half trading goals with Wolves scoring on 8 mins from a deep corner which went through the finger tips of Skye Kirkham to be headed home at the back post by No35.
Then on her debut from just outside the penalty area Danielle Whitham managed to create space before curling a right foot shot into the top right corner of the goal to equalise.
Wolves regained the lead after 17 mins with No 8 scoring, before Sophie Bell picked up the ball on the right wing and with no challenges coming in advanced to the edge of the area to hit left footed into the goal over the keeper. 2-2.
Then on 44 mins Sophie Crosby spotted the forward run of Drew Greene, breaking through the Wolves defence to go one on one with the keeper rounding her to score. 3-2 at half-time.

The second half was played end to end with both benches using their substitutions. corners were defended well, breaks snuffed out and chances for both teams went wide of the goal until in the 87 min Wolves attacked in from the right wing to shoot into the Barnsley box where it was scoop blocked up into the air, Wolves recycled on the left goal area and despite the efforts of Lucy Turner at the left hand post their No16 managed to slide in to bumble over the goal line to equalise.

Full-time 3-3 means Barnsley continue their 10 match un-beaten run but this one may feel like one that got away. A big thanks for Wolves for travelling north and making this a competitive game which no doubt will have helped both managers.

May We Wish you All a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We are hoping to get another home friendly in on Jan 6th 2019 so watch out on the website and twitter for more Details.
