A trip down to Gedling on the outskirts of Nottingham and home to Carlton Town Fc on a Tuesday night for a 7.45 ko saw the Barnsley FC Ladies 1st team complete their pre-season preparations against Nottingham Forest Ladies FC.
The game started brightly as the ladies, tonight in a blue strip borrowed from Barnsley Sports Academy, attacked well down the flanks.
In the 11th minute Annie Ward played out into Kathryn Smith in midfield, she passed out right to Drew Greene on the right wing who played a one two with Amy Woodruffe to attack the forest penalty area before squaring the ball into the goal area box for Amy Woodruffe to tap into the Forest goal 0-1 Barnsley.
As the half progressed it became a bit scrappy and although Barnsley created attacks they were not ending in clear shooting opportunities.
Then in the 30th min Lucy Turner slide across the Nottingham forest centre forward as she tried to break clear into the Barnsley penalty area. Although a clean tackle it left Lucy in pain as the ball was cleared only as far as the forest midfield who mounted an attack, feeding the ball through to the centre forward who was tugged back just inside the Barnsley penalty area. Lucy received treatment before the penalty was taken, which was initially saved brilliantly by Skye Kirkham, only to see the forward react quickest to put the ball into the goal.
The rest of the game saw bot team cancelling each other out, with a lot of free-kicks for niggling little fouls which broke up the play.
A tough game in the end, but a draw meant the Ladies have had an un beaten pre-season.
Next is a weekend training session as the Ladies do not have a game on the 1st weekend of the FA WNL season before an away trip to Chester le Street the Sunday after.
C'Mon You Reds!!!
