With a slightly later KO due to Barnsley FC Open day, the rain eased as the teams took to the field at Oakwell.
Barnsley FC Ladies of course in Red and Burton Albion ladies in Yellow and Black.
The first half was well contested with touch tight defending and some minor niggles. We wish a speedy recover to the Burton Albion defender who limped off with a knee injury .
The second half saw Burton Albion break quickly and score on 52 mins. This spurred Barnsley forward attacking down both flanks but Burtone held firm, then following brave defending in their penalty area the Burton Albion took a heavy knock to her knee, which saw her limp to the sideline and whilst off the field Darcie Greene equalising from an assist by Frankie Wild on 58 mins. She came back on but was unable to continue after 5 more minutes, we wish her a speedy recovery.
Against 10 players Barnsley scored through Annie Ward with a back post header from a corner on 74min, Darcie Greene netted her second on 75 min and Amy Woodruffe rose high to head strongly from another corner.
The management were happy with the overall performance as the team continue to take steps forward, attitude and fitness showed with goo build up play resulting in good goals, but still early days.
Next up is Sheffield Steel City Wanderers at Fleets on Thursday 2nd Aug.
