Barnsley Ladies win through to SHFA County Cup final for 3rd consecutive season.

With the sun was shining over Storthes Hall and having remembered to put clocks forward for this re-arranged SHFA Womens County Cup final sponsored by SGP Graves & Thorncliffe. Barnsley FC Ladies warmed up under the new watchful eyes of Steve Maddock who along with Steve Gates are bringing their wealth of knowledge into the club to help consolidate the great work done to date by the committee, and take it to the next level.
Back on the pitch it was a re-jigged team than in recent matches, missing the younger players who have broken through into the first team of late due to being cup-tied, having played earlier rounds for the Reserve team. But welcomed back Drew Greene, Rebecca Fevers & Nikki Hogg from injury and with Rebecca Wilson returning.
It was to be expected, as the home team, Huddersfield Town Ladies Development started lively, enjoying good possession and picking off the Barnsley attacks as they built, growing with confidence as they frustrated Barnsley.
18 min a formation change with Emily Ward moving from right wing to left back, Elisha James moved to holding midfield in front of the back four. This released Nikki Hogg to push up front and Drew Greene to operate more in the right wing channel.
21 min Drew Greene played a cross field ball, although Darcie Greene was stood in an offside position it was Nikki Hogg who came through the defensive line to push the ball goal wards into the hands of the goal keeper. The goal keeper mistakenly thought the offside decision had been given and walked straight out of her penalty area still holding the ball, correctly the Assistant Referee flagged for handball. From the awarded free kick Nikki Hogg hit the ball just over the cross bar.
26 min Huddersfield attacked down the left before attempting a shot at the near post which Bryony Hudson just palmed away for a corner that was dealt with easily.
27 min Emily Ward broke forward down the left wing playing a one-two with Darcie Greene before picking out Nikki Hogg more centrally. Nikki played a lovely left to right long ball into the path of Drew Greene who took it into the penalty area to shoot as the angle narrowed only for the goal keeper to save at her right hand post.
29 min Rebecca Fevers played a lovely left wing channel ball for Darcie Greene to take towards the goal line before crossing a little too close to the goal keeper who caught it easily.
30 min Huddersfield pressed and managed to block a clearance attempt with the rebound putting their centre forward through on goal, Bryony Hudson was alert and stood tall to save the goal bound shot.
36 min Barnsley throw midway in the Huddersfield half, Lynn Goodman turned smartly deceiving her defender before playing a cross field pass to Darcie Greene, and she dribbled in field before passing out wide right to Georgina Wilson who crossed into the penalty area just over the head of Nikki Hogg.
39 min a strong foul tackle on Nikki Hogg after she played the ball into the path of Darcie Greene was spotted with a loud shout of advantage from the Referee, Darcie crossed the ball into the goal-area from where it was cleared.
42 min Rebecca Fevers went down in pain having played a long clearance ball, she hobbled off suspecting a re-occurrence of the injury that has kept her out for the past 6 weeks.
45 min Darcie Greene threaded a ball through the Huddersfield defence into the path of Drew Greene as shouts of offside which were waved away, she shot into the side netting.
0-0 Half-time and Huddersfield Town Ladies Development appeared to walk off the happier.

Changes for Barnsley at half-time and another re-jig with Rebecca Fevers, unable to continue and best wishes in her recovery again, was replaced by Rebecca Wilson who went into the central defence alongside Lucy Turner and Emily Ward, this released Kristie Ward to move up front, a position she has always wanted to try in training, this time for real with a clear remit to chase balls down, stay on side and if she got sight of goal shoot.
48 min Drew Greene, now playing right wing, took on and beat her defender to the goal line, crossing across toward the penalty spot it was missed by Nikki Hogg, but Darcie Greene came in off her left wing to shoot just wide.
53 min as Huddersfield tried to break down their left wing, Georgina Wilson stuck to her task ensuring the winger was forced to take the ball to the goal line before Georgina slid in to make the tackle out for a corner.
58 min Rebecca Wilson read the play well to intercept a Huddersfield pass forward, she played into Nikki Hogg who threaded a ball though into the right wing channel for Drew Greene to pick up at the edge of the penalty area, under pressure she turned inside and squared the ball to Kristie Ward centrally to smash the ball past the Huddersfield goal keeper 0-1 Barnsley.
66 min Drew Greene broke through the defence this time centrally before playing a ball out wide to Darcie Greene but it was a little too heavy and the goalkeeper reached it first to clear away.
68 min Huddersfield No 7 dribbled past three Barnsley defenders as she went from right to left then into the penalty area before shooting at goal which Bryony Hudson calmly plucked from the air.
70 min from a snuffed out Barnsley attack Huddersfield cleared their lines only to the feet of Emily Ward, she hit a 30 yards shot just wide.
72 min Drew Greene found her way forward blocked by 3 Huddersfield defenders just on the right edge of the penalty area, she passed inside and Darcie Greene had a shot blocked, the rebound fell to Kristie Ward but this time her shot was saved by the goal keeper.
75 min Emily Ward blocked a Huddersfield clearance and played it forward into Kristie Ward on the edge of the Huddersfield penalty area, with a defender in front of her she dummied the shot, taking it to the right before shooting over the cross bar.
77 min Huddersfield broke down their right wing, Lucy Turner came across but was unable to prevent the cross coming over but Georgina Wilson managed to put some pressure on the Huddersfield forward who shot wide.
81 min Barnsley substitution with Kristie Ward coming off to be replaced by Laura Windle who went into a midfield five with Nikki Hogg moving up front.
87 min Huddersfield attacked down the left and into the penalty area before shooting straight at Bryony Hudson who caught easily.
88 min another left wing break for Huddersfield saw Lucy Turner cautioned for spoiling a promising attack by running across and blocking the player, from the resulting free kick Rebecca Wilson headed clear.
93 mins Full time blown and Barnsley FC Ladies won 0-1, but Huddersfield Town Ladies Development had not given them an easy game.
Opposition player of the match is Drew Greene and for Barnsley FC Ladies Kristie Ward.
