It was a very breezy day at Oakwell and following the heavy rain yesterday the Reds were not allowed to play on the grass, as they faced Chorley Town Ladies in the FA WPL Plate. Danielle Lowe was unable to play due to last week’s injury, but welcomed back Captain Abby Parkin.
Barnsley kicked off and it was quickly clear playing with the strong wing behind them in the first half would be a leveller for both teams.
4 mins Rebecca Fevers managed to get half a yard and her shot away but it was picked up easily by the Chorley keeper.
18 mins, almost a bit of fortune when a back pass to the Chorley keeper was miss kicked and it rolled agonisingly close to a goal by rebounding off the left hand post and then picked up by the goal keeper.
25 mins Rebecca Fevers again managed to get half a yard 20 yards out, but her shot lacked power and was dealt with safely by the Chorley keeper
26 mins Chorley No 11 broke through the Barnsley defence, she shot goal wards and Laura Wilson managed a diving save to tip around the post.
35 mins Emily Ward looped down the right wing and crossed deep to the back post, where Holly Findlay controlled but from a really tight angle only managed to bounce it over the cross bar.

47 mins gone Abby Parkin threaded a ball through the Chorley Town defence and Demi Pringle was in on goal, but pushed it wide of the left hand post.
52 mins Demi Pringle linked up with Rebecca Fevers but her shot was saved.
53 mins Abby Parkin took a Barnsley corner which was met by a strong header from Amy Woodruff, goal! 1-0 Barnsley.
55 mins Chorley attack down the left wing was dealt with on the goal line, but the clearance fell to No 14 who was central and unmarked, she hit a low shot to score 1-1
58 mins Chorley Town No11 chased down a through ball, but lost her footing on the goal line, falling into the fence around the field. After treatment she was substituted suffering a cut to her head. We wish her a speedy recovery
63 mins Kristie Ward was adjudged to have fouled just inside the Barnsley penalty area and No 14 stepped up to score in the left side of the goal as Laura Wilson dove the other way.

87 mins Chorley Town corner was taken to a player on the edge of penalty area, Emily Ward reacted quickly to hit the ball but it ricocheted against the Chorley No10 as she was shooting and it flew into the top left corner of the goal with the Barnsley keeper static. Emily Ward stayed down having hurt her leg in the contact, to be replaced by Laura Windle.
