The Reds travelled up north to take on new side Wallsend, who were promoted from last season.
0-0 The first half was goal-less, with the majority of chances coming from Wallsend.
Changes were made at half time, bringing on substitutes Rebecca Hale, Rebecca Fevers and Kathryn Smith, changing the dynamics of the team and keeping better possession of the ball.
0-1 The Reds went in the lead when Brittany Sanderson, sponsored by Corey Pavings, took on her defender and struck the ball over the goalkeepers hands and into the back of the net.
Excellent saves made by GK Laura Wilson helped to keep The Reds in front for a long spell in the second half, even though she was injured.
1-1 Wallsend's relentless pressure eventually paid off, when they scored directly from a corner, the wind helped sweep this in, however a deserved goal nonetheless.
Both teams continued to battle, seeking the winning goal, with chances being made at both ends.
1-2 The Reds were the ones who secured the 3 points, after their non-stop work rate and desire led to their second goal. Brittany Sanderson went charging at goal with the ball, drawing in defenders, leaving options to slide the ball to Bekkie Hale or Darcie Greene. She did exactly that and played a ball for Darcie to run onto and slip passed the goalkeeper, but only just as the goalkeeper got a hand to it, but not enough to keep it from going over the line.
The Reds showed great bounce-back ability from their first defeat last week. They host Castleford next Sunday.
