Difficult conditions see Reserves lose to Chorley

As the Teams warmed up in high winds, a hail storm put kick off in doubt, but with the Referee consulted and agreement to pause the game if it got bad during the game we got underway at Oakwell under blue skies and sun.
Chorley FC Women development top the FA Women National League Reserve Norther Division 2 and were quickly into their stride attacking down both flanks.
11 min in a break down the Chorley right wing was crossed into the penalty area towards 2 Chorley attackers, Emily Ward managed to deflect it away from the first but the 2nd one controlled and smashed the ball across Katrina Parsons and into the bottom right of the goal 0-1.
12 min Betty Cheetham came off with blurred vision to be replaced by Alayna Millard.
18 min Barnsley attacked down their left wing with Lauryn Wilcox riding a challenge and the threading a delightful pass into the run of Ellie Brightmore. The Chorley keeper came out to gather at the feet of Ellie Brightmore but fumbled with Ellie regathering before shooting from a tight angle to score with Alayna Millard close by just in case. 1-1
19 min another break down the Chorley right and a cross in saw the Chorley forward react quickest and get a shot away on target but Katrina Parsons was quickly down to save with her legs.
36 min Chorley No10 capitalised when a corner was headed clear and she smashed it into the top right of the goal from 25 yards. 1-2
41 min Lauryn Wilcox swung in a corner from the right, it was swinging on towards the back post over the keeper and Niamh Ryalls made sure 2-2
44 min a quickly taken freekick split the Barnsley defence as Chorley crossed in and lifted the ball over the Barnsley Keeper 2-3
Half-time, say Niamh Ryalls withdrawn with an injury replaced by Darcie Doherty, with a reshuffle of formation bringing Emily Ward into centre back, Alayna Millard at right back with Darcie joining the centre midfield with Amy Nowells and Emily Pierrpont.
2nd half Barnsley were playing into the strong 40mph winds, with Chorley getting the half underway
60 min from a Chorley throw on the right a speculative lob into the box was caught by the wind, bouncing on the six yard line and over the top of Katrina Parsons 2-4
67 min Brave last gasp defending with a combination of Molly Beacroft, Emily Ward and Melissa Cole helping Katrina Parsons clear a goal mouth scramble resulted in a goal kick. But from that kick Chorley no14 smashed the ball into goal from 28 yards into bottom left
72 min a stalled Barnsley goal kick in the wind was intercepted by Chorley No 19 who took it back into the penalty area to slot it past Katrina.
79 min a defensive clearance stalled in the wind and there was Chorley No 19 to take it back into the penatly area and once again slotted past Katrina.
Second half Barnsley were constantly under pressure at the back as Chorley mounted wave upon wave of attack. There were some glimpses as Lauryn Wilcox tried to break free up the left wing, Faye Smith up the right wing supported by Alayna Millard and Ellie Brightmore was constantly buzzing across the front working hard but they were not able to trouble the Chorley goal.
It was a hard working performance by all the Ladies in difficult conditions. Thanks to all spectators who came to brave the elements.
