1st pre-season for Reserves/Development, positive start

A last minute request from Ossett for a pre-season game saw a mix of Barnsley’s Reserve and Development sides take on Ossett Utd at The Fleets.
With the threat of a storm looming we saw many new faces take to the pitch. A good start for Barnsley, with them showing an attacking intent from the off. Familiar face Bev Smith captained the side in the heart of defence with new face Ellie Miller alongside her. Niamh Ryalls a familiar face at left back with Alayna (“Ginge”) at right back. The back four linked well going forward with Eden and Mel Cole in the midfield. Lauryn and Faye Smith on the wings provided pace and caused trouble for Ossett. Another familiar face in Ellie Brightmore was alongside another new face Betty Cheetham up-front. Both had Ossett unsettled and created opportunities and space. Skye between the posts was confident in her footwork and worked well with the back four.
Lauryn, full of running had Ossett on the backfoot as did Faye on the right. More new faces were introduced as the half went on with Barnsley 3-0 up. A new back four of Faye Ryalls, Paige Wainwright, Charlotte Cook & Molly Beacock took a little time to settle and A harshly given penalty spoiled Barnsley’s hope for a clean sheet. Kayleigh Fitzpatrick and Caitlyn Denton were introduced in the midfield with Emily Smith and Emily Hoosen now on the wings. Ellie was now joined by Dina up-front. With so many changes it was inevitable that it took time for them to settle and were let off at the back. The rain soon came as did the thunder & lightning which saw the ref take the players off for early half time with the score 6-1.
Finally the storm abated and the second half got underway. More good interplay with Ginge and Faye, some excellent movement off the ball from Dina and Emily Hoosen who bagged 2. Another two goals for Barnsley and a consolation for Ossett saw the game finish 10-2 to Barnsley. Overall a great first game, the fitness work paying off and confidence is high amongst the girls going into the second pre-season against Notts County on Sunday.
