Barnsley WFC 4-0 Lincoln United

Barnsley WFC 4-0 Lincoln United

Jonathan Ford19 Nov - 09:23

The Reds make it back to back wins with a dominant performance at the OLP.

Barnsley Women’s FC were back at the OLP as they looked to make it back to back wins in the league.

The starting lineup saw a couple of changes in personnel and a shift in positions, with Demi Barai coming in to start against her former club and Brogan Hughes making her debut, having recently joined on a dual-registration from Sheffield United. Paige Crossman slotted in at centre-back and Maisie Norde starting at left back.

The first ten minutes of the game were a bit on the scrappy side with both teams trying to keep possession but ultimately unable to do so. In the tenth minute a mix up by the opposition keeper gifted Misty Russell the ball and her cross in the box went by without anybody to connect.

In the 12th minute, the Reds took the lead. Some great pressing by the midfield and attackers gave the chance for Jodie Snelson to have a chance on goal which she cooly slotted into the bottom corner from the edge of the box to register her 9th goal of the season.

The rest of the half was a bit of back and forth with the Reds having several half chances without troubling the goal and equally the visitors has some half chances themselves, and in the 44th minute some neat play by the visitors attacker Farrow lead to a great save from Bean Clarke.

This defiance from Clarke and the steady defending from the Reds meant that we could turn the game massively in our favour in the 3rd minute of injury time. Some outstanding play down the right from Misty Russell and cross finding Jodie Snelson who then fed Anita Gaspar, who cooly slotted it home to make it 2-0 going into the break.

Half-Time Barnsley WFC 2-0 Lincoln United

There was a substitution at half time, with Jemima Jarvis coming on for Misty Russell. The second half started much like the first, a lot of endeavour and work with some chances coming from the delivery of Maisie Norde, who had excellently slotted in at left back and kept the visitors right winger at bay.

In the 50th minute, a coming together saw Demi Barai booked, in what looked like a coming together where the opposition did not want to challenge and came off worst. Harsh yellow card.

In the 66th minute, things got better for Barnsley as some need play from Jodie Snelson found Jemima Jarvis to make it 3-0 with a cool finish.

This allowed manager Craige Richardson to make another sub with Olivia Richardson coming on for Anita Gaspar who had been a constant threat throughout and deserved her goal.

Just a minute later, and outstanding ball from Brogan Hughes, who had been outstanding all game, gave Jemima Jarvis the chance to double her tally for the afternoon and she took the opportunity well and finish brilliantly to make it 4-0 to the visitors.

After this we controlled the game and with the subs of Daniela Kraycheva and Tally Diamond for Paige Crossman and Jodie Snelson, who had both been fantastic, we were able to play some nice stuff and see the game out for a 4-0 win and clean sheet.

Great win and great performance. Player of the match went to Anita Gaspar but every player played their part and with players playing out of position and others only recently joined, it was another step in the right direction.
