What a brilliant match for the ladies this week versus Leeds United, granting us the 3 points to stay at the top of the league over our Yorkshire Rivals!
This Sunday kick off at SOLP provided us with chance after chance, with Pierrepont already having a shot on target within the first 5 minutes of play and then just after succeeding in winning the side a corner! Although the corner didn't produce an outcome, the girls keep faith as they blocked Leeds from any chances at scoring. 11 minutes in there was a rally for a penalty that all Barnsley players believed in, but unfortunately the referee disagreed and didn't give us the decision...
As the game continued both sides increased their intensity and settled into the game with a great first time ball from Csomor and even a free kick in a serious spot for the side, however both produce no out come yet again. The chances were there and the timings were just right! But will Barnsley Women get their shots round keeper Kirkham?
The Reds continued to play with dominance on the field and it is clear to all that the first half is truly theirs! A good half for the women giving them the spring in their step to come out fighting in the second half! HALF TIME 0-0
SECOND HALF AND WE ARE BACK UNDERWAY VERSUS LEEDS UNITED
The reds came out strong and had many a chance in the box, great efforts from Pierrpont again and Housley as they continued to work magic around the defenders.... and finally the work paid off!
GOAALLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!
50 minutes of play produces the first goal of the match! The Reds drove down the left of the pitch and as the cross flies in the Leeds centre half slid in for a block which deflects the ball into their own goal! All she could do is fall to her knees as the Reds surrounded her in celebration! 1-0 BWFC @ 50 MINUTES!
Not even a moment later the girls are back on with a chance as Pierrepont speeds around her defender to whip in a shot which looked destined for top corner but bounced off the goal keepers post... the Reds took every chance they could get!
A slight glimpse of Leeds pulling themselves together at 61' where they looked slightly threatening but that attempt and others following had no chance against Stuart and the other players. The next 5 minutes seem to be giving Leeds hope as they get chance after chance and suddenly a break! However a heavy touch from Bartup means that Clarke could gather and that the Reds were still on top!
GOAAAAAAAALLLLLL!!!
72' Goal from Amy Beck, capitalising on the keepers misjudgement of play, huge goal for the club as they ever increase their lead and the gap between them and their opposition! Keeper came so far out that the decision costs the dearly.. very undesirable for the Leeds United Women..
With an even bigger spring in our step the Barnsley Women they persevered to increase their lead and just that they do!
GOAAAAAAAALLLLLL!!!
Nat Watson on the edge of the box as she slings it home! Unbelievable play and an unbelievable finish. What a way to bring the match home.
With a small amount of time left of the match the girls ensure they don't concede and after 1 minute extra time the girls win 3-0 against Leeds United Women. A brilliant result keeping us above our Yorkshire rivals.
Thank you to everyone who came and watched the match this weekend, brilliant play and amazing support on the sidelines. Congratulations to Nat Watson for POTM too!
