The two sides met at The Easy By Stadium under the lights on a Thursday night. With both teams sitting on 16 points after 6 games and occupying the top 2 spots in the league it was sure to be a close encounter.
Barnsley's intentions were clear early when straight from kick-off striker Jodie Snelson charged the keeper and nearly had The Reds one-nil up within the first minute.Although Hull had the majority of possession in the first 10 minutes, it was Barnsley that came up with more of the chances, in the eighth minute Stuart had a long range effort tipped over the bar and only five minutes later Barnsley created another chance that Pierrepont couldn't make use of.
Barnsley didn't have to wait long though until they made the breakthrough, when Amy Beck powered a header past the Hull City keeper in the twenty-first minute of the game. Giving the Reds a one-nil lead.
The remainder of the half didn't offer any clear cut chances, but both sides had opportunities but both failed to capitalise and Barnsley went into the break one-nil up.
The second half began and within the first couple of minutes there was a delay when Katy Woodcock went down with a head injury, and despite coming up with a bleeding nose she carried on the second forty-five, however only moments later Woodcock and Barnsley found themselves back level when Hull equalised following a fantastic finish from there striker, who lobbed Clarke.
With the game now all level Lois made a change to force a another goal, roping off Pierrepont and brining on Biggins. Immediately after that change though Hull had an opportunity to give themselves the lead, this time just heading wide. The game was now really in the balance, but neither side backing down. Moments later again they attacked and again the shot went just wide. With fifteen minutes to go it was anybody game.
And despite having gone down injured ten minutes before Amy Beck provided the moment of magic Barnsley were looking for when she found the winner in the eighty-first minute of the game.
A real hammer blow for Hull and a huge result for the Reds who sit three points clear at the top of the league.
